Explaining the Truman Doctrine, Marshall Plan, and NATO to a teenager

My daughter is studying post WWII – Truman Doctrine, Marshall Plan, NATO, etc. I needed to explain it to her in terms that made sense.

1. The Daddy Doctrine states that I must not let her sneak out of the house. I asked if she would, she said – depends.
2. I said the Daddy plan is that if she sneaks out she’ll be grounded for three months. Ah, that made the point.
3. I then said that I formed the PUTO (Parental Unit Treaty Organization) and that if she broke the Daddy Plan, that Mom  would back me up.

I think she now understands it better.

A quick note: I explained to my daughter that the Marshall Plan wasn’t a set of consequences, but economic support. So, my explanation is a little off there but still good I think.
